In my mind, the most important event recently is the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. Now it has closed already. It is really an excellent event and as a Chinese, I am very proud of that. However, this time, my concern is not on the event itself, I was tormented about a question of the importance for the competitive sports such as Olympic game and I thought I got a point that competitive sports have seldom been anything more that gladiatorial fights.
It is long since the competitive sports have been fun. They often seem to be fought by proxy in the playing fields. In almost every international game, especially in Olympic Games, we see that the attitude of rival countries seem to be that they are at war. A very clear example is the competition of medals between China and the USA, I saw many Chinese concern more about the numbers of the medals they won, not about the process of it and the spirits itself. I think in such an atmosphere, it is ridiculous to say that Olympic Game can introduce the Olympic Spirit to the world and contribute to international harmony. The shocking thing is even friendly countries can take games to the extreme so that emotions run high and often fights break out among the players and among the supporters. It is also shocking that it is all over a game and that people are supposed to be having fun. Fortunately, the Beijing Olympic game does not have such fights, but this situation does mean that none of the competitive sports have the fights. We can see the news of conflicts of the competitive sports nearly every day. We may come up with a question, where do fights happen? Strangely enough, everywhere! Even in so called ‘civilized societies’ such as the Europeans are proud to describe themselves.
Furthermore, why does this happen and what causes sportsmen and their fans even a whole country to go berserk? First of all, it must be assumed that most countries have many reasons for being rivals with each other. Similarly with Singapore and China in women table tennis final, all Singaporean and Chinese are fully aware of the friendliness between the two countries. However , it is also the common knowledge that friendly through the people in 2 countries are towards each other, a spirit of rivalry foes exist, each of us want to win in the finals, China wants to get another gold and but Singapore also wants to get breakthrough in its Olympic history, so the friendly relations just ceases to exist and the rivalry is uncloaked. This is hardly to be expected between friendly countries, the same thing happens in Europe when France, Italy or England football teams plays against each other. They are old friends, yet in football they are virtually enemies, the reason for all this is the overemphasis on patriotism has been responsible for killing men in war, and now it is causing conflicts in games and killing the whole spirit of sportsmanship.
In conclusion, the competitive sports, especially the Olympic game seldom contributes to international harmony and the Olympic spirit. In fact, they seem to promote rivalry and even hatred between countries. Maybe we should ban such sport games for promoting the international harmony.

Can democracy make our society stable?
Due to the environment I have grown in, I have to admit that I’m not very familiar to the democracy society. However, based on my experience and new knowledge in Singapore, I think I like democracy, but I really do not think that democracy can always make the society stable.
Firstly, I want to point out the problem of efficiency. I do not think the efficiency of the democratic government is better than other politic forms of government. As we have the democratic government, we always have strong opposition, and they question the validity of most of the policies that the governments made. I am not saying that I do not like these oppositions, but in fact the efficiency of the government were really pulled down by it, I think most of the time it is a little waste of time. Wasting time is wasting the money of the tax payers. The aims we tax payers pay the taxes are not for the politicians to argue and argue. Most of the time, the purpose they agree or disagree on some policies are just based on their benefits. So, we can see that in some democracy country and district, people are not aware of what the policiy like, such as Italy and Taiwan. In Italy there are always 2 parties argue with each other and want to get the majority in the congress, and make the efficiency of the government lower and lower. This situation make some of the voters tired of the change of the governments and lost their heart on the policy and government, and I think this situation will make the society unstable, and may cause the conflict( although it is not very possible.)
Secondly, I think the democracy is the game of majority, if you are the majority, you will own the whole country. We cannot deprive the rights of the minority to satisfy the majority, it is quite unfair for the minority and will have a high possibility of conflict. The situations of conflict in Sri Lanka, Northern Ireland and the racism in America are very good examples of it. The majority always abuse their right to get benefits from the minority. I cannot find any good solution for it. Maybe we should wait for a superman to solve it.
All in all, I think the democracy may also have many problems to solve, it cannot always be stable, but comparing with other policies, maybe it is the best policy that occurred.

The Poisonous Dumplings
January 31, 2008, the Japanese domestic Medias said that people were poisoned by frozen dumplings which were made in china.
Japan's Kyodo News Service reported that Takasago, Hyogo Prefecture, a three-people-family got poisoning after eating the Chinese frozen dumplings. According to the police, the frozen dumplings which was made in China, was imported by Tokyo's Shinagawa district JT food import company. The family ate the dumplings on 5th evening January, after that they felt vomiting and diarrhea, so they went to hospital and had to stay in hosp ital for 10 to 14 days because of the food poisoning
Police found methamidophos, a kind of drug which was almost non-organic in .Police believed that the drug may be mixed with dumplings in the production process, and is a breach of the "Food Hygiene Law" and other suspects under investigation.
As the affair continued, the frozen dumplings in the cause poisoning incidents have become more complicated and confusing. According to the police investigation, toxic organophosphate insecticides, "methamidophos soluble liquid" very likely is attached to the dumpling skin. At the same time, Chiba City found "poisonous dumplings" in the concentration of toxic components up to 130 ppm (concentration units), and Takasago, Hyogo Prefecture, from the dumplings’ overpack found a hole with diameter of 3 mm . In addition, the two Japanese companies confirmed that the Tianyang foreign food factory in Hebei Province had a veery good management; it is suspected methamidophos were put by some people. It is said that the number of people which had eaten Chinese frozen dumplings and felt sick is over 500.
Japan "Kobe News" on February 13 article, the original title was "The so-called dumplings poisoning caused by physical discomfort, mostly because of the flu.” In the article it said that ‘According to Health Ministry survey, a total of 2,773 people reported adverse reactions after eating, and in fact, the number of people which are able to determine organophosphate poisoning are only in Takasago, Hyogo Prefecture’s 10 people. Most of others are caused by influenza viruses and felt physical discomfort.’
Actually, this event is a great hit for Chinese food exporting industries. As we know ,China is the ‘World Factory’, you can find the things that are made in China everywhere, but now ,many country are reducing the food import from China because of the “Poisonous Dumplings”. Maybe the Chinese government should have a more tighten Food Inspection System to make sure that the food is all healthy and let the consumers in the whole world rest assured.
This event hasn’t finished, we even don’t know whether it is poisoning during the producing or during the selling in Japan ,but the criticisms of the Chinese production have occupied all the newspapers, and these reports give the consumers wrong feelings that all the things that are made in China are poisonous . Maybe behind this event, there are more things about policy that we can’t know, I’m also not sure about this , I just hope the medias can give this event fair reports.
